Where it came from
Marimo no Hana: Saikyou Butouha Shougakusei Densetsu, or 'Marimo’s Flower: Legend of the Strongest Elementary School Fighter,' was produced as an original video animation by Studio Kinema Citrus in 2012. It was based on the manga series written by Yoshihiro Togashi, the renowned creator behind works such as Hunter x Hunter and YuYu Hakusho. The project was conceived as part of an effort to bring Togashi's earlier, lesser-known storytelling to life for a modern audience, focusing on the comedic and energetic adventures of a young, formidable schoolgirl.
The production sought to capture the quirky, character-driven aesthetic characteristic of early 2000s shonen manga. The design and direction favored dynamic, expressive animation intended to highlight the titular character's immense strength contrasted with her primary school setting. Upon its release, the OVA was primarily received by fans of Togashi’s wider bibliography who were interested in exploring his deeper catalog, serving as a curious archival piece that showcases his signature blend of eccentric humor and supernatural undertones.
