Where it came from
Midori no Kuni no Otomodachi: Koeda-chan is an original net animation series produced by A Line and released in 2017. It serves as a modern revival of the long-standing Takara Tomy Koeda-chan toy line, which originated in the 1970s. The series was designed to breathe new life into the franchise by introducing its signature treehouse-dwelling characters to a contemporary digital audience through short-form, accessible episodes.
The visual aesthetic of the series maintains the cute, minimalist charm characteristic of the Koeda-chan aesthetic, focusing on vibrant natural settings and gentle, slice-of-life storytelling. By centering on the theme of friendship within the Green Country, the animation aimed to bridge the gap between legacy fans who grew up with the dolls and a new generation of children. It was received as a lighthearted promotional effort that successfully reinforced the brand's identity as a staple of Japanese children's media.
