Miss Monochrome - The Animation - 2

Miss Monochrome - The Animation 2 was released in 2015 as the second season of a short-form anime series centered on a fictional android idol. The character originated from a 2012 event performance by voice actress Yui Horie, who sought to create an artificial idol that could perform independently. Produced by Studio SANZIGEN, the series uses 3DCG animation to depict the protagonist’s earnest, often comedic attempts to become a popular idol while navigating the eccentricities of her creator and manager.

The series design maintains a clean, hyper-modern aesthetic to reflect the character's robotic nature while grounding her in the familiar tropes of the idol industry. Directed by Yoshiaki Iwasaki, the show was crafted to be a lighthearted meta-commentary on fame and the music business. Upon its release, it was received as a charming experimental project that bridged the gap between virtual pop star marketing and traditional television animation, noted primarily for its distinct visual style and the dedicated involvement of Horie as both the voice and the character's conceptual architect.
