Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Operation Meteor

Released in 1996, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Operation Meteor serves as a retrospective original video animation series that condenses the events of the television show. Produced by Sunrise, the project was designed to satisfy the intense demand from the show's fan base following its initial run, offering a summarized perspective of the conflict between the five Gundam pilots and the OZ organization. It functions largely as a recap, framing the central narrative through the eyes of the primary characters while providing additional context for the political tension that drives the series.

The production maintains the distinct aesthetic established by character designer Shukou Murase, whose work on the series is celebrated for its lean, stylized depictions of the pilots and intricate mechanical designs. By synthesizing the core plot points, the OVA aims to provide a more digestible entry point for the expansive lore of the After Colony timeline. It was received as a quintessential piece of franchise media, reflecting the mid-nineties focus on character-driven melodrama and the stylistic modernization of the mecha genre that defined the Gundam Wing phenomenon.
