Mono wo Parapara Kowasu

Mono wo Parapara Kowasu, which translates to 'Destroying Things Bit by Bit,' is a conceptual photobook released in 2002 by the Japanese artist and designer Taku Satoh. The project emerged from Satoh’s long-standing interest in the relationship between industrial design and the structural integrity of everyday objects. By systematically dismantling mass-produced items, he intended to reveal the hidden architecture and intricate mechanical logic often obscured by seamless commercial packaging.

The book is characterized by its clinical, minimalist aesthetic, presenting high-resolution sequences of objects in various states of deconstruction. Critics praised the work for its analytical precision and its ability to challenge the viewer’s perception of functional design, shifting the focus from the utility of an object to its constituent parts. It remains a notable reference in the field of design theory, often cited for its influence on the 'exploded view' style of modern industrial documentation.
