Moonlight at midday

Moonlight at Midday, published in 1966, was written by Sally Carrighar as a detailed account of her experiences living in the Arctic region of Alaska. Moving there during the mid-twentieth century, Carrighar sought to document the nuances of life in the remote village of Unalakleet, focusing on the intersection of human endurance and the harsh, unforgiving cycles of the northern environment.

The book is noted for its lyrical, observant prose that bridges the gap between natural history and personal memoir. Carrighar, a naturalist by training, utilized her background to craft a narrative that was well-received for its authenticity and sensory detail. It remains a significant work within mid-century travel and nature literature, valued for providing an intimate, non-anthropocentric perspective on a region that was rapidly changing due to modern influence.
