This hand-drawn animation thematizes what we are looking at in everyday life. Created using pencils, pastels, and oil paints, the drawn pictures were then shot with a digital camera and spliced together as video. Set on a fantasy train representing a kind of mental landscape, a young man shuts himself off from the outside world by reversing his face so he does not see anything, while another man silently stuffs garbage into the face.

Where it came from
Nani mo Minakute Ii, released in 2008, is a documentary directed by Naoe Gozen. The film serves as an intimate observation of the daily life and philosophical outlook of the photographer Masahisa Fukase, who struggled with the aftermath of a tragic accident. It emerged from a desire to document the artist's withdrawal from the public eye and his quiet existence, focusing on the stillness and solitude that defined his later years.
The documentary is noted for its meditative pace and its departure from traditional biographical narratives, choosing instead to capture the atmosphere of Fukase’s environment. By utilizing a minimalist approach, the filmmakers aimed to mirror the introspective nature of the subject's own photography. Upon its release, the work was received by audiences and critics as a poignant, albeit somber, visual record of a significant figure in post-war Japanese photography.
