In the follow up to Shirows classic anime, Al, Leona and their trusty steed, Bonaparte, continue to fight crime in New Port City, alongside the rest of the Tank Police. But a new threat appears in the form of a series of terrorist attacks, using the latest weapons technology. The Tank Police are out-numbered and out-gunned, but Al and Leona set out to discover who or what is behind these attacks. With massive explosions and high-speed chases, Leona often causes more damage than the criminals she pursues.

Where it came from
New Dominion Tank Police was released in 1993 as a six-episode original video animation (OVA) series, serving as a successor to the 1988 Tank Police adaptation of Masamune Shirow's manga. Produced by studio J.C.Staff, the series emerged during a high point for gritty, cyberpunk-infused police action in the Japanese animation market. It sought to capitalize on the cult success of its predecessor by adopting a more polished, character-focused aesthetic while maintaining the high-octane vehicle combat that defined the source material.
The character and mechanical designs were significantly overhauled from the 1988 version to align with the visual trends of the early 90s, aiming for a cleaner, more detailed look that better showcased the complex tank weaponry. The series was generally well-received by fans of the franchise for its blend of slapstick humor and intense action sequences, though it occupies a distinct stylistic space compared to the original manga due to its departure from Shirow's more dense, technical narrative style.
