Where it came from
The Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan OVA, released in 2012 by Studio DEEN, serves as a supplemental bridge for the anime adaptation of Hiroshi Shiibashi's supernatural manga series. These episodes were produced to animate specific story arcs that were omitted from the primary television broadcast, specifically focusing on the past of the Nura Clan's leadership and the maturation of the protagonist, Rikuo Nura, as he navigates his dual nature as both a human and a yokai commander.
The design of the OVA maintains the aesthetic established during the series' second season, known as 'Sennen Makyou,' which shifted the visual direction toward a more detailed and atmospheric portrayal of the Kyoto setting. Studio DEEN utilized these episodes to highlight the intricate folklore-inspired character designs, aiming to satisfy dedicated fans by providing a more faithful adaptation of the source material's darker and more mythologically dense chapters.
