In the distant future, mankind is forced to live in domed cities called Domepolis after an environmental cataclysm. These cities are maintained and supplied by private corporations, but at what cost to the inhabitants living within them? In a Siberian Domepolis, virtual game champion Gainer Sanga is arrested on suspicion of Exodus, an unauthorized venture beyond the dome walls and strictly prohibited by the government.
In prison, he meets Gain Bijou, a mercenary bent on escaping and together the two will steal a mysterious Overman out of Duke Medaiyu's mansion. Fighting back the Siberian Railway Patrol forces, they both lead a massive Exodus out of the city to the east land Yapan, where their ancestors are originally from.

Where it came from
Overman King Gainer was produced by Sunrise in 2002 as an experimental project directed by Yoshiyuki Tomino, the creator of Gundam. Seeking to move away from the grim, realistic tone of his previous series, Turn A Gundam, Tomino collaborated with character designer Akira Yasuda to create a vibrant, fluid aesthetic. The production was characterized by its unique blend of traditional 2D animation and early digital techniques, intended to capture a sense of kinetic, dance-like movement that deviated from the standard mecha tropes of the era.
The series centers on the protagonist Gainer Sanga and his titular mecha, the King Gainer, which is powered by a unique movement-based pilot interface. The design of the King Gainer reflects a departure from bulky, industrial machines, favoring a lithe and expressive silhouette that allows for unconventional combat maneuvers. While its eccentric art style and surreal narrative polarized audiences upon its initial broadcast, the show has since gained a reputation as a distinctive, highly creative entry in Sunrise's library, celebrated for its stylistic audacity and departure from traditional mecha rigidity.
