Forty-year-old detective Eiji Kirisame has found maybe the strangest witness of his life: a silent high school girl named Tsugumi Kuchinashi who was at the scene of the crime. Her statements mostly consist of shoddy doodles on a drawing pad, but Eiji is no stranger to piecing together the truth from limited evidence. He'll take every page seriously if it might help solve the case. But why does the last page say...
"Will you marry me?! "

Where it came from
Pen to Wappa to Jijitsukon was produced by studio EMT Squared and released in 2027 as a television series. The project emerged during a period in which the studio was exploring narrative-driven, character-focused dramas, aiming to bridge the gap between slice-of-life storytelling and more intricate, thematic exploration. The production sought to capture a specific atmospheric quality, balancing minimalist visual framing with dense, introspective dialogue that defined the series' pacing.
The creative direction for the series prioritized a restrained aesthetic, favoring clean lines and a muted color palette to emphasize the emotional interiority of the characters. Critics and audiences noted the series for its deliberate departure from high-energy animation trends of the mid-2020s, with many reviews highlighting the direction's success in creating a grounded, contemplative tone. It was generally received as a niche but well-crafted entry in the studio's catalog, appreciated for its consistency in tone and visual identity.
