In 2047, an unknown, alien life-form descends upon the Earth, destroying all the major cities in one fell swoop. The survivors unite and build a Diffusor to stop the Februus, the invaders the military would later codename the FOS, and a temporary peace is achieved. Jump forward to 2053, the present. PLANZET: The final plan, Plan Zed, to retake Planet Earth. A last, desperate counterattack against the enemy. Hiroshi Akishima, soldier in the Planetary Defense Forces Alliance, would like nothing better than a shot at the aliens responsible for his father's death six years ago. However, the new offensive requires the Diffusor to be dropped, leaving the entire planet terribly vulnerable once more. Will humanity regain the stars or lose everything in the final, ultimate gamble?

Where it came from
Planzet is a 2010 Japanese science fiction film produced by Media Factory and animated by the studio CoMix Wave Films. The project was created to explore high-end 3D digital animation techniques within the Japanese independent film landscape. Set in a future where humanity faces an extraterrestrial threat, the narrative follows a young pilot defending Tokyo, reflecting the classic mecha genre traditions while emphasizing contemporary computer-generated imagery.
The film was directed by Jun Awazu, who sought to blend intricate mechanical design with emotional storytelling. Following his earlier work on short films, Awazu designed the project to demonstrate the potential for small-scale studios to produce feature-length science fiction. Upon its release, it was recognized primarily by enthusiasts of independent anime and digital art for its ambitious visual style and technical execution rather than broad mainstream distribution.
