Platinum End

Platinum End is a Japanese manga series written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata, the same creative duo behind the acclaimed Death Note and Bakuman. Published in Shueisha's Jump Square magazine from 2015 to 2021, the story follows Mirai Kakehashi, a student who is granted supernatural powers by a guardian angel and thrust into a high-stakes competition to become the next deity. The narrative explores complex themes of morality, nihilism, and the nature of human existence, carrying the dark, philosophical tone that defined the creators' previous collaborations.

The 2021 television anime adaptation was produced by Signal.MD and directed by Hideya Takahashi for the first half and Kazuchika Kise for the second. The studio sought to faithfully translate Obata's detailed character designs and the series' architectural gothic aesthetic into animation. Upon its release, the adaptation received a varied critical response; while fans of the original manga appreciated the fidelity of the adaptation, others debated the pacing of the narrative and the polarizing conclusion of the source material.
