Where it came from
Released in 2023 by Kadokawa, Ple Ple Pleiades × Kage-Jitsu! functions as a crossover short-form series that merges the chibi-style comedic universes of Overlord and The Eminence in Shadow. The project was conceived as a lighthearted promotional ONA to showcase the studio's portfolio, leveraging the existing popularity of both franchises' recurring spin-off formats, specifically the Ple Ple Pleiades shorts and the Kage-Jitsu! segments.
The animation maintains the distinct super-deformed aesthetic established by the respective production teams at Studio Puyukai. By placing the stoic guardians of Nazarick alongside the eccentric cast of Shadow Garden, the series aimed to bridge two disparate dark fantasy fanbases through meta-humor and character-driven gags. It was received by audiences as a playful expansion of the studio’s signature style of comedic adaptation.
