Pokémon the Series: XY Mega Evolution Specials

Released between 2014 and 2015, the Mega Evolution Specials were produced by OLM, Inc. as a four-part miniseries supplement to the main Pokémon the Series: XY broadcast. The specials were created to introduce viewers to the Mega Evolution mechanic, a central feature of the sixth-generation video games Pokémon X and Y, through the eyes of the character Alain and his journey alongside the researcher Lysandre. By shifting the perspective away from the long-standing protagonist Ash Ketchum, the production team aimed to explore the darker, more strategic complexities of the Pokémon world.

The series was directed by Daiki Tomiyasu and featured character designs by Toshihito Hirooka, who worked to align the aesthetic with the established XY visual style while emphasizing a more cinematic, action-oriented tone.
