PreCure Max Heart

PreCure Max Heart serves as the direct sequel to the 2004 series Futari wa Pretty Cure, produced by Toei Animation. It was created to capitalize on the unexpected commercial and critical success of the original magical girl series, which had effectively revitalized the genre by incorporating intense, physical hand-to-hand combat alongside traditional transformation tropes. The narrative continues the journey of Nagisa and Honoka as they transition into their second year of middle school, maintaining the core theme of friendship as a source of physical and spiritual power.

The character designs were overseen by Akira Inagami, who established the series' signature aesthetic of dynamic, slightly edgy silhouettes that stood apart from the softer, more ornate magical girl archetypes of the previous decade. By introducing a new character, Hikari Kujou, the production team aimed to deepen the lore of the Garden of Light while providing a new focal point for character development.
