Princess Princess

Princess Princess emerged in 2006 as a television adaptation of the manga series by Mikiyo Tsuda, produced by Studio DEEN. The story focuses on a unique tradition within an all-boys boarding school where selected students are chosen to dress as princesses for school events to boost morale and provide a feminine presence. This premise reflects a broader mid-2000s interest in gender-bending tropes and slice-of-life narratives within the shōjo and shōnen-ai demographics.

The animation design sought to balance the comedic elements of the high school setting with the visual appeal of the protagonists' elaborate costumes. While Studio DEEN is recognized for its extensive body of work, this series is noted for its specific niche appeal. Upon its release, it received a mixed reception from audiences who appreciated the character dynamics but were occasionally divided on the pacing of the narrative compared to its original manga source material.
