PSYCHO-PASS: Sinners of the System 2 - First Guardian

Released in 2019 as the second entry in the Sinners of the System film trilogy, First Guardian serves as a prequel narrative within the expansive Psycho-Pass universe. Produced by Production I.G, the film was developed to flesh out the backstory of Teppei Sugo, a character whose past as a military drone pilot provided a grounded, gritty contrast to the series' more cerebral explorations of the Sibyl System. The project sought to shift the perspective from the series' main protagonists toward the tactical and psychological tolls of the Public Safety Bureau's enforcement operations.

The film's visual design retains the franchise's signature dark, cyberpunk aesthetic, characterized by sharp contrasts and atmospheric cityscapes. Naoyoshi Shiotani directed the feature, maintaining continuity with the series’ established tone while refining the mechanical design of the drones and the tactical combat sequences. It was received by the community as a focused character study that successfully expanded the lore of the Ministry of Welfare Public Safety Bureau, offering a tighter, more intimate look at the costs of maintaining a regulated society.
