Qi Jie Diyi Xian

Qi Jie Diyi Xian, produced by the studio Soyep, emerged during the growing movement of Chinese original net animation (ONA) seeking to establish a distinct visual identity within the global digital landscape. Released as a series focused on themes of cultivation and fantasy, it reflects the aesthetic priorities of the mid-2010s Chinese animation industry, which increasingly combined traditional folklore motifs with modern high-definition digital rendering techniques to appeal to both domestic and international streaming audiences.

The production sought to balance intricate character designs with fluid action sequences, characteristic of Soyep's technical ambitions during this period. While the series encountered the typical challenges of the competitive ONA market, including fluctuating audience reception and the complexities of episodic distribution, it remains a notable example of the studio's stylistic experimentation and their effort to refine the intersection of traditional narrative structures and contemporary animation pacing.
