Qing Chi Hong Xiaodou Ba! Hong Yu Lü

Qing Chi Hong Xiaodou Ba! Hong Yu Lü, known in English as 'Go Eat the Red Adzuki Bean! Red and Green,' was produced by MAKING ANIMATION as part of their popular The Legend of Xiao Douzi franchise. The film serves as a creative expansion of the web animation series that follows the daily lives of a sentient, optimistic red adzuki bean who dreams of being featured in a delicious dessert, alongside his loyal friend, a green bean. The project was conceived to translate the studio's signature minimalist aesthetic and whimsical storytelling into a longer cinematic format, aiming to maintain the character-driven humor that resonated with online audiences.

The character design remains rooted in the simplistic, rounded style characteristic of early Chinese internet-based independent animation, emphasizing relatable expressions and comedic timing over complex rendering. The direction focuses on the lighthearted chemistry between the two protagonists as they navigate various culinary environments. Upon its release, the film was received as a charming extension of the franchise, praised for its commitment to the original spirit of the shorts and its ability to maintain a gentle, observational tone that appeals to both children and young adults.
