Where it came from
Released in 1994, this calendar served as a promotional piece for the popular Ranma 1/2 anime franchise, which was produced by Kitty Film and aired during a period of peak interest in Rumiko Takahashi's gender-bending martial arts comedy. It was designed to keep the show's vibrant cast of characters visible in the domestic spaces of fans, utilizing the colorful, expressive aesthetic characteristic of 90s animation cels and promotional illustrations.
The illustrations follow the established visual style of the series' animation team, capturing the comedic and action-oriented essence of the characters. Like many contemporary anime goods of the mid-90s, the calendar was intended as a functional collector's item for enthusiasts of the OVA series, serving as both a practical tool and a piece of ephemera documenting the enduring popularity of the property during its transition from long-running television series to feature-length home video releases.
