Where it came from
Rebecca, released in 2020 by Vega Entertainment, is a psychological thriller adaptation of the 1938 gothic novel by Daphne du Maurier. The production was conceived to reimagine the classic narrative for a modern audience, leaning into contemporary visual sensibilities while maintaining the suspenseful, atmospheric core of the original source material. It emerged during a period of renewed interest in adapting literary classics with updated cinematography and character-driven focus.
The film was directed by Ben Wheatley, who aimed to blend the tension of the classic Hitchcock adaptation with a more vibrant, modern aesthetic. While the production received a mixed critical reception regarding its departure from established cinematic conventions, it was widely recognized for its high production values and specific period costume design. It remains a notable entry in Vega Entertainment's catalog, serving as a distinct stylistic iteration of a long-adapted story.
