Where it came from
Released in the summer of 2000, Rokumon Tengai Mon Colle Knight: Densetsu no Fire Dragon was produced by Kadokawa Shoten as a theatrical companion to the Mon Colle Knight television series. The franchise itself originated from the Monster Collection trading card game, which had gained significant popularity in Japan, prompting the development of an anime adaptation that leaned into the game's adventurous, monster-battling mechanics.
The film serves as a short feature, blending the familiar character designs of Mondo and Rockna with the high-fantasy aesthetic characteristic of the late-nineties anime boom. Directed by Noriyasu Kogawa, the movie focuses on the quest for a legendary dragon, reflecting the franchise's emphasis on creature collection and world-building that defined the broader Mon Colle multimedia project of that era.
