Ronin Warriors: Message

Ronin Warriors: Message, known in Japan as Yoroiden Samurai Troopers: Message, serves as the final installment in the franchise that began with the 1988 television series. Released in 1991 as a five-part original video animation (OVA) series, it was produced by Sunrise to provide a conclusive narrative arc for the five young warriors. The production emerged from a period when the franchise was shifting toward more mature thematic explorations, moving away from the episodic monster-of-the-week structure of the original show toward a more character-driven, melancholic resolution.

The character designs were overseen by Norio Shioyama, whose signature aesthetic defined the series' look. The design philosophy for Message focused on a departure from the vibrant, high-energy visuals of the television series, opting for a moodier, more contemplative visual style to match the somber tone of the script. While the series maintains a dedicated cult following for its blend of traditional Japanese armor motifs and science fiction elements, it was received primarily as a definitive closure for existing fans rather than an attempt to expand the franchise to a broader audience.
