Rootless heart

Rootless Heart was produced by the Tokyo University of the Arts, known as Geidai, as part of their renowned animation curriculum. This short film emerged from a rigorous creative environment where students are encouraged to push the boundaries of traditional animation styles, often resulting in deeply personal, experimental narratives that deviate from mainstream commercial aesthetics.

The film is celebrated for its distinctive visual design, which emphasizes fluid, emotive character movement and a somber, atmospheric color palette. It was crafted to explore themes of displacement and belonging, and upon its release, it earned critical recognition on the international festival circuit for its technical sophistication and its ability to convey complex, wordless sentiment through minimalist, evocative animation.
