Where it came from
Samurai Bride was produced by studio ARMS and released in 2013 as the direct television series sequel to the 2010 anime adaptation of the Samurai Girls light novel series. The show continues the alternate-history fantasy narrative established by author Yuji Yamaguchi, centering on a group of female warriors modeled after historical figures from the Sengoku period in Japan.
The character designs for the series were handled by Rin-Sin, who maintained the elaborate, highly decorative aesthetic synonymous with the franchise. While the series received mixed critical reception due to its heavy reliance on fan service and its deviation from the more grounded tone of traditional jidaigeki, it remains a notable example of the ecchi-action genre that was prevalent in early 2010s anime production.
