Where it came from
Sayonara Plastic World is a documentary production from NHK, Japan's national broadcaster, designed to explore the pervasive influence of synthetic materials on modern life and the environment. Produced within the context of increasing global awareness regarding plastic pollution, the program seeks to provide a sobering look at how disposable culture has reshaped natural ecosystems and human habits, characteristic of NHK’s long-standing focus on educational and investigative journalism.
The visual presentation is rooted in the high production standards of NHK’s documentary unit, utilizing observational filming techniques and clear, narrative-driven editing to translate complex ecological data into a digestible format. It was created to encourage viewers to reflect on their own consumption patterns, contributing to a broader public discourse in Japan and abroad about sustainability and the future of waste management.
