Where it came from
Scarlet is a 2025 animated feature film produced by Studio Chizu, the acclaimed Japanese animation studio founded by director Mamoru Hosoda. As the latest entry in the studio's portfolio, the film continues the director's signature exploration of the intersection between digital landscapes and human emotion, building upon the thematic foundations laid by predecessors like Belle and Summer Wars.
The production reflects the studio's focus on meticulous hand-drawn aesthetics combined with contemporary digital animation techniques. While details regarding its reception remain in the early stages of its release cycle, the project is characterized by its intent to push the boundaries of visual storytelling in modern anime, prioritizing character-driven narratives that investigate the complexities of identity in an increasingly interconnected, virtual world.
