Scott Pilgrim Takes Off

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off was released in 2023 as an original net animation series for Netflix, serving as an expansion of the Scott Pilgrim universe created by Bryan Lee O'Malley. Produced by the acclaimed Japanese animation studio Science SARU, the series reimagines the original graphic novel narrative by shifting the focus from the titular character to the perspective of Ramona Flowers and her exes, providing a fresh perspective on the source material.

The animation was directed by Abel Góngora, who utilized Science SARU’s signature fluid and expressive style to translate O’Malley's distinct visual aesthetic into motion. The project is notable for reuniting the entire core cast from the 2010 live-action film, with O’Malley and BenDavid Grabinski serving as writers and executive producers. Upon release, the series was received with critical acclaim for its inventive storytelling and its willingness to diverge from the established plot to explore deeper character development.
