Secrets of the Rivers

Secrets of the Rivers, known in Chinese as Jianghu Zhi Jue, was produced by Tencent Penguin Pictures as a 3D animated original net animation series. Released in the context of the burgeoning Chinese animation industry’s push toward high-fidelity CGI storytelling, the project was designed to adapt established wuxia fantasy tropes into a modern digital format. It serves as an example of the studio’s efforts to leverage advanced motion capture and character modeling to capture the expansive, stylized aesthetics typical of the genre.

The series focuses on intricate character design and fluid martial arts choreography, reflecting the studio's focus on technical polish to appeal to a broad domestic audience. The visual direction emphasizes atmospheric environments and detailed textures, which are hallmarks of Tencent’s larger portfolio of animated adaptations. Upon its debut, the project was received as a significant entry within the platform’s library, contributing to the trend of translating traditional narrative styles into the visual language of contemporary streaming media.
