Senro wa Tsuzuku yo Dokomademo

Senro wa Tsuzuku yo Dokomademo, or The Railroad Goes On Forever, is a prominent musical feature within the long-running NHK children’s program Okaasan to Issho. The song is a Japanese adaptation of the American folk tune I've Been Working on the Railroad, which was repurposed to fit the educational and lighthearted tone of Japanese public broadcasting. It has served as a staple for multiple generations, designed to introduce children to rhythmic singing and themes of travel and perseverance.

The arrangement utilized by NHK reflects the signature production style of the network’s educational wing, emphasizing clear melodies and approachable vocal performances by the program's recurring cast. By pairing the classic melody with Japanese lyrics that emphasize the vast, connecting nature of railways, the piece became a cultural touchstone. It is frequently revisited in television specials and concert tours, maintaining its relevance through consistent inclusion in the network’s official songbooks and media archives.
