Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign was produced by Wit Studio and premiered in 2015, adapted from the dark fantasy manga series written by Takaya Kagami. The anime emerged during a period of significant growth for the studio, following their breakout success with Attack on Titan, and aimed to replicate that blend of high-stakes action and gothic aesthetics. The series centers on a post-apocalyptic world where humanity is pushed to the brink by vampires, following the protagonist Yuichiro Hyakuya as he joins the Moon Demon Company to exact revenge.

The production sought to distinguish itself through a distinct color palette—characterized by deep blues and cold, stark whites—to emphasize the grim atmosphere of the ruined world. The character designs were handled by Satoshi Kadowaki, who worked to balance the military uniforms of the Japanese Imperial Demon Army with the ornate, flowing garments of the vampire aristocracy. Upon release, the show was noted for its polished animation and Hiroyuki Sawano’s sweeping orchestral score, establishing it as a prominent entry in the mid-2010s supernatural action genre.
