Shixiong, Qing An Juben Lai!

Shixiong, Qing An Juben Lai! (Brother, Please Follow the Script!) is a Chinese web animation series, or ONA, adapted from a popular web novel. Produced in the landscape of the rapidly expanding Chinese animation industry, the series was created to capitalize on the success of the xianxia and transmigration genres. It serves as a meta-narrative, focusing on a protagonist who finds themselves trapped within the plot of a novel they were reading, tasked with navigating the rigid script of the story while attempting to alter their own fate.

The visual design of the series leans into the tropes of 3D-rendered donghua, emphasizing vibrant character models and elaborate historical fantasy costumes that distinguish it within the digital streaming market. The series was met with interest from domestic audiences accustomed to serialized web fiction adaptations, praised for its comedic tone and the subversion of common genre archetypes. By blending self-aware humor with traditional martial arts aesthetics, the production aimed to provide a lightweight, entertaining experience for the demographic that actively follows long-form digital serialized fiction.
