Where it came from
Shonen Ashibe GO! GO! Goma-chan 2 serves as the second season of the 2016 reboot of Hiromi Morishita's classic manga series. Produced by Studio Bridge and released in 2017, the series continues the heartwarming adventures of a young boy named Ashibe and his pet spotted seal, Goma-chan. The production team aimed to maintain the gentle, surreal humor and distinctive aesthetic of the original 1980s source material while updating the animation for a contemporary television audience.
The character design remains deeply rooted in Morishita's minimalist style, which emphasizes expressive simplicity to convey the bond between the protagonist and his unusual pet. Directed by Nobuhiro Kondo, the season was crafted to appeal to a multi-generational demographic, balancing slapstick comedy with the slice-of-life charm that made the franchise a staple of Japanese pop culture. Upon its release, it was well-received by fans of the original work as a faithful and cozy continuation of the series.
