Where it came from
Mashumairesh!! premiered in 2020 as a reboot and expansion of the Show By Rock!! franchise, shifting the production from Studio Bones to Kinema Citrus. The series was designed to introduce a new cast of characters, led by the band Mashumairesh, while maintaining the franchise's unique blend of rhythm-based gameplay aesthetics and high-energy musical narrative. The transition to Kinema Citrus allowed for a fresh visual interpretation, emphasizing vibrant, character-driven storytelling within the existing Sanrio-created universe.
The series was received as a soft reset for the franchise, successfully pivoting toward a more grounded, episodic approach centered on the personal growth of the band members. Critics and fans noted that the animation style benefited from the studio change, offering a more fluid and expressive look that complemented the show's focus on songwriting and group dynamics. By focusing on the challenges of an emerging band, the series captured the spirit of its predecessors while carving out a distinct identity that appealed to both long-time fans and new viewers.
