Where it came from
Sin in the Rain, released in 2006, is a specialized animation project produced by Mook Animation. The studio, known for its extensive portfolio of sub-contracting work for major anime productions, developed this title during a period when the industry was exploring the creative flexibility of original video animation (OVA) formats. These projects often served as showcases for studio talent, allowing animators to experiment with mature themes and distinct visual palettes outside the constraints of long-running television series.
The visual direction of the project reflects the stylistic hallmarks of mid-2000s independent animation, prioritizing atmospheric lighting and character-driven narratives. The design intent was to craft a moody, cinematic experience that leaned into the 'neo-noir' aesthetic popular in the subculture of the time. While it remains a niche entry in the Mook Animation catalog, it is frequently cited by enthusiasts of the era as a quintessential example of the studio's technical capability to build immersive, rain-soaked environments within a limited production scope.
