Where it came from
The second season of the series SK∞, widely known as SK8 the Infinity, follows the success of the 2021 original anime produced by studio Bones. The series was conceptualized to blend high-octane skateboarding culture with character-driven drama, carving out a distinct niche within the sports anime genre. Directed by Hiroko Utsumi, whose previous work includes acclaimed projects at Kyoto Animation, the series was designed with a focus on fluid, kinetic action sequences that prioritize the visceral feeling of skateboarding alongside the evolving relationships between the protagonists, Reki and Langa.
Following the initial broadcast, the announcement of a second season generated significant anticipation among the series' dedicated fanbase. Bones, a studio long celebrated for its high-quality animation and ability to handle intense visual choreography, committed to maintaining the stylistic flair established in the first season. The project reflects the studio's broader commitment to character-focused storytelling, aiming to expand upon the world of 'S'—the secret, high-stakes skateboarding race—while deepening the emotional development of the core cast.
