Where it came from
The Sky Wizards Academy OVA was released in 2016 as a companion piece to the television anime adaptation of the light novel series by Yu Moroboshi. Produced by studio diomedéa, this episode served to expand upon the fantasy setting of Misstogan, a floating fortress city where aerial mages defend humanity against insect-like magical creatures. The animation follows the established tone of the original series, focusing on the tactical training and interpersonal dynamics of the S128 special platoon.
The OVA was directed by Takayuki Inagaki, who aimed to maintain the high-fantasy aesthetic and character-driven narrative established during the broadcast season. By utilizing the creative staff from the main production, the studio ensured visual continuity in the character designs and aerial combat sequences. Upon its release, it was received primarily as a supplement for fans of the source material, providing a lighthearted narrative departure from the more intense conflicts of the main series arc.
