SOUTH FOREST

South Forest was produced by Geidai Animation, the animation department of the Tokyo University of the Arts. This film emerged from the institution's commitment to nurturing independent creative voices within the Japanese animation scene. It was conceived as an experimental work, reflecting the rigorous academic and artistic environment of the university, where students are encouraged to blend traditional storytelling with unconventional visual techniques.

The film is defined by a distinctive aesthetic that prioritizes atmospheric texture and subtle character movement over mainstream commercial polish. Designed and directed as a personal project, the work is representative of the studio's broader output, which often focuses on poignant, self-contained narratives. It was received as a notable entry in the world of independent short-form animation, appreciated by festival circuits and audiences interested in the intersection of fine art and cinema.
