Space Battleship Tiramisu ZWEI

Space Battleship Tiramisu ZWEI, released in 2018, serves as the second season of the surreal comedy anime adaptation of the manga series written by Satoshi Miyakawa and illustrated by Kei Ito. Produced by Studio GONZO, the series continues the absurd chronicles of Subaru Ichinose, an ace pilot whose mundane interpersonal neuroses often eclipse his interstellar military duties. The animation production maintained the specific comedic tone established in the first season, focusing on the jarring juxtaposition between high-stakes space opera tropes and the pilot's obsession with his personal space inside his mecca cockpit.

The series is noted for its experimental approach to the mecha genre, opting for psychological vignettes rather than grand space battles. Critics and viewers often highlighted the sharp timing of its short-form episodes, which prioritize gag-heavy character development over complex world-building. By centering the narrative on the internal frustrations and petty grievances of its protagonist, the show positioned itself as a satire of the traditional pilot archetype, further cementing the franchise's reputation for unconventional storytelling within the GONZO catalog.
