Where it came from
Space Brothers: Apo's Dream is a 2012 original video animation produced by Milky Cartoon, serving as a companion piece to the long-running Space Brothers anime series based on Chuya Koyama's manga. The project was created to delve into the backstory of Apo, the beloved pug belonging to the protagonist Mutta Nanba, providing fans with a deeper look at the character's journey prior to his life in the space program.
The animation maintains the aesthetic established by the primary television series, focusing on a more whimsical, character-driven narrative centered on the dog's perspective. It was designed to function as an endearing side-story within the broader franchise, reflecting the emotional resonance and focus on human-animal bonds that characterize Koyama’s original work. The OVA was generally received by enthusiasts as a gentle, heartwarming expansion of the Space Brothers universe.
