The Fairytale World is in trouble. Its princesses and their respective worlds are disappearing, causing a ripple effect in the human world where their stories are popular. In order to save the Fairytale World, the Queen sends three magic animals, Sei, Dai, and Ryoku, to the human world with magic gems to find three girls who can become the "Super Miracle Idols," the princesses Snow White, Cinderella, and Kaguya-hime. Those "princesses" end up being three little girls: Yukimori Ringo, Takashiro Layla, and Sasahara Natsuki. But the gems transform them into older singing superstars, and after their accidental debut at the singer Wish's concert, they become known as "Little Princesses," or "LilPri." Now they must collect Happiness Tones from humans in order to restore the Fairytale World.

Where it came from
Spellbound! Magical Princess Lilpri, known in Japan as Lilpri, debuted in 2010 as a multimedia project developed by Sega and Shogakukan. The series emerged during a peak era for Japanese magical girl anime, specifically aiming to capitalize on the popularity of collectible card arcade games. Produced by Telecom Animation Film under the direction of Makoto Moriwaki, the show centered on three girls who transform into idols to save a fairy kingdom, mirroring the interactive mechanics of the arcade cabinets used in the game's marketing.
The character designs were handled by Atsuko Watanabe, who crafted an aesthetic that emphasized the bright, energetic, and sparkly tropes synonymous with the mahou shoujo genre of the late 2000s. The series was designed to appeal primarily to elementary-aged girls, integrating pop idol culture with fantasy elements to create a cross-media ecosystem. While it gained a dedicated following among fans of the genre for its cheerful tone and catchy musical numbers, it remains a niche entry in the landscape of early 2010s anime.
