Square Of The Moon: The Night Is Coming!

Square of the Moon: The Night Is Coming! was released in 2002 as an adult original video animation produced by the studio Alice Soft. It serves as an adaptation rooted in the studio's extensive history of visual novel development, specifically leaning into the dark fantasy and eroge aesthetics that defined the developer's output during the early 2000s. The production was intended to expand the reach of their character designs and narrative tropes into the animation medium, catering to a niche but dedicated fan base of the time.

The animation reflects the aesthetic sensibilities of Japanese adult animation of the early 2000s, prioritizing stylized character illustrations and gothic-inspired atmosphere. While the project was conceived as a promotional and entertainment vehicle for the brand’s intellectual property, it remains a product of its era, characterized by the specific digital cel-shading techniques and storytelling conventions favored by Alice Soft’s creative team. It was received primarily as a genre piece for enthusiasts of the studio’s wider catalog of games and related media.
