STAND BY ME Doraemon 2

Stand by Me Doraemon 2 was produced by Shin-Ei Animation as a direct sequel to the 2014 original, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Doraemon franchise. The film was directed by Ryuichi Yagi and Takashi Yamazaki, who sought to adapt specific chapters from the original manga—primarily centered on Nobita's memories of his grandmother—to explore themes of nostalgia, growth, and the emotional resonance of the bond between a boy and his robotic companion. The production utilized 3D computer-generated imagery to create a tactile, cinematic look that distinguishes these films from the long-running 2D animation tradition.

The film was released in 2020 following multiple delays caused by the global pandemic. It was designed to bridge the gap between long-term adult fans of the series and a new generation of viewers by focusing on mature emotional beats. Critical reception highlighted the film's technical visual quality and its success in delivering a poignant, character-driven narrative, cementing its place as a significant entry in the franchise's extensive history.
