Suna no Bara: Yuki no Mokushiroku

Suna no Bara: Yuki no Mokushiroku, known in English as Desert Rose: Snow Apocalypse, was released in 1993 as a two-episode original video animation produced by J.C.Staff. The project was adapted from the long-running manga series Desert Rose by Michiaki Suzuki, which gained significant popularity in the 1980s for its blend of action, espionage, and character-driven narratives set against a backdrop of international terrorism.

The production sought to condense the complex geopolitical tension of the original manga into a concise cinematic format. While the animation style reflects the aesthetic hallmarks of early 1990s direct-to-video releases, it is often noted by historians of the medium for its ambitious attempt to capture the gritty, globe-trotting scope of Suzuki’s work. Upon release, it served primarily as a supplemental expansion for existing fans of the manga, though it remains a niche entry in the studio's early filmography.
