Synopsis

The book fell onto a computer keyboard, giving anybody the ability to see into the past from Sho's home via the monitor. Ruffles, Chris' dog, managed to get lost in time, prompting Zenmaijikake and Sho's cousin Hisashi to search for her. Sho and Azusa kept watch and control of the computer from the present. The older children also had a hard time trying to keep what happened a secret from Sho's parents.

Provenance

Where it came from

Superbook 2, known in Japan as Superbook II: Yomigaeru Mahō no Yosōfuda, was produced by Tatsunoko Production in 1983 as a direct sequel to the original anime series. It was created through a partnership between the Christian Broadcasting Network and the Japanese animation studio to provide biblical narratives in a format accessible to children. The series continued the adventures of the protagonists as they were transported back in time to witness key events from the New Testament.

The character designs and animation style maintain the signature aesthetic of early 1980s Tatsunoko works, characterized by fluid movement and expressive, slightly stylized figures. The series was designed to balance historical storytelling with the fantastical element of the time-traveling toy robot, Superbook, which served as the catalyst for each episode's journey. Upon its release, it was primarily utilized in international syndication and educational ministry contexts, marking a notable instance of cross-cultural collaboration in children's television production.
