Sword Art Online Extra Edition was produced by A-1 Pictures and aired in late 2013 as a special television event. Following the conclusion of the anime's first season, the special was designed to bridge the gap between the Aincrad and Fairy Dance arcs and the subsequent Phantom Bullet storyline. It serves primarily as a narrative recap of the preceding events, framed within a new mission where the protagonist, Kirito, and his allies embark on an underwater quest in the ALfheim Online world.
