Where it came from
Taimanin Asagi: Toraware no Niku Ningyou was released in 2020 as part of the long-standing Taimanin franchise, which began as a series of adult visual novels developed by Lilith. The franchise centers on a team of female ninja tasked with battling demonic threats in a futuristic, dystopian version of Japan. This OVA was produced by ZIZ Entertainment, a studio frequently associated with adaptations of the source material, and focuses on the character Asagi Igawa, the series' primary protagonist.
The character design for this production draws heavily from the established aesthetic of the Taimanin series, characterized by a fusion of cybernetic military gear and hyper-stylized action tropes. As with previous entries in the series, the project was developed to cater to the franchise's dedicated fan base, emphasizing high-fidelity animation and the mature themes that define the brand. Its reception was largely confined to niche audiences familiar with the visual novel origins, serving as a continuation of the franchise's expanding multimedia presence.
