Where it came from
The Do-Over Damsel Conquers the Dragon Emperor was produced by the animation studio J.C.Staff and premiered in 2024. It is based on the light novel series written by Sarasa Nagase, which follows the story of Jill Cervelt, a woman who is executed but finds herself sent back in time to the moment of her engagement, providing her an opportunity to alter her tragic fate by proposing to her former enemy, the Dragon Emperor Hades.
The animation adaptation focuses on the character-driven fantasy dynamics typical of J.C.Staff's work in the shōjo and romantic fantasy genres. The studio’s direction aimed to translate the light novel’s mix of political intrigue and personal redemption into a visual format, emphasizing the contrast between the protagonist’s past life and her newfound path. Upon its release, the series was noted for its departure from traditional tropes within the time-loop subgenre.
