Where it came from
The Eternal Aseria was released in 2005 by Studio Matrix as a self-contained original video animation. Produced during a period when the studio was seeking to diversify its portfolio beyond serialized television projects, the work was conceived as a standalone experimental fantasy piece intended to test new cel-shading techniques that were beginning to transition into digital workflows at the time.
The design of the animation was led by the studio's internal creative team, who sought to blend traditional hand-drawn aesthetics with the burgeoning digital composition tools of the mid-2000s. While it was received by critics as a technically ambitious effort, the project remained a niche entry in the studio’s filmography, often overshadowed by their more prominent, long-running franchise works.
